Vince Gilligan Shares He Has a Plan for How Pluribus Will Conclude... At the Moment.

The creative mastermind did not foresee that his new science-fiction series would turn into a cultural phenomenon. “The viewers have been incredible,” Gilligan says. “I did not foresee the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

As the debut season of the popular program wrapping up—and the next chapter already in development—Gilligan and his team opened up about the fan response and whether it will shape the narrative path of Pluribus.

About the Tremendous Viewer Reception

Anyone might to get distracted by the rampant praise and online debates about Pluribus. He is making a conscious effort to avoid both.

“The experience is akin to force fed something incredibly sweet and being tickled to death,” he says. “It's amazing, but I learn of it through word of mouth, and that's intentional. Not once have I Googled myself, nor do I ever intend to. It's quite the opposite. It's a rabbit hole I know I would get lost in and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from the hardware store and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Regardless of trying to stay away, there’s no escaping the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to accept it graciously and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We don't try to tailor anything,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not influenced by what people are saying.”

“We prefer to keep our noses to the grindstone,” he chimes in.

The Big Question: Will the showrunner Have a Plan for the Ending of Pluribus?

Given that the writers aren’t being guided by audience theories, can we assume they have mapped out how Pluribus will ultimately end? The answer is yes… in a way.

“We have some interesting ideas about where the show might end up,” Gilligan reveals. “yet we stand ready to discard a decent plan for a more brilliant plan. This approach has served us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we conceive of something superior and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Alternatively, if they hit a wall, Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to fall back on.

“I keep pitching that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and the characters are inside it,” he says humorously, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Then again, why mess with the classics?

“My dream is Carol to open her eyes beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is streaming now on the streaming service.
