The President Welcomes Families of Attacked Military Personnel to White House
Former President Donald Trump revealed on the weekend that he has asked the family of a Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the executive mansion.
He added that he spoke to her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Details on the Devastating Shooting
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a violent incident on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her comrade, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in serious condition.
Vigils across West Virginia have occurred in their honor.
Presidential Invitation
The commander-in-chief said he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the families of both members of the state National Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” Trump told the press. “And in the same way with him, recover or not.”
Public Reaction
Community members gathered over the past few days at a local school in West Virginia to honor Sarah.
Both they had been working with the military unit as part of the president’s government program to aid policing efforts in DC.
Remembering Beckstrom
“Sarah was the kind of student that teachers wished for. She carried herself with calm resilience, a bright grin and a positive energy that encouraged people around her,” the principal, the principal of Beckstrom’s alma mater, informed the Associated Press. “She was kind, caring and always eager to support those in need.”
Funeral plans for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Legal Steps and Policy Changes
Officials have indicted a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of homicide and charges of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The event led the Trump administration to halt asylum applications and cease granting visas to owners of passports from Afghanistan.
Condition of Wolfe
The airman, a resident of the city, enlisted in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, according to the Associated Press.
He is still undergoing care and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia leader the governor stated on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
Attorney general the attorney general informed a news show that she aimed to speak to Wolfe’s family.
Memory of Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County High in 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a law enforcement officer with honor, per the state guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had bravery,” he told the gathering at the memorial. “Though her life was cut short, she has made an impact that’s going to last forever.”
