Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was understandable for doubts to be asked about his future after another heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth loss in twelve matches, representing the club's poorest streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I have got significant backing from above,” the coach remarked.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and get a victory of course but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Club Management
When asked to elaborate on his conversations with the team officials, Slot explained:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me all the time of the day to say they back me.”
He added, “Through standard exchanges I feel the trust. But I've not talked to them since this defeat yet so we'll see.”
Persistent Issues and Squad Reaction
Slot expressed regret over recurring failings from his team in their Champions League defeat, namely wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder stated.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't have to wait to reflect. I’m past feeling anger inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side going through a spell of this nature with performances like these.”
Jones stated, “However we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And as long as that badge is gone, we will always battle.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad back to its rightful place, show everyone once more what this club is about and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”
“But right now, things are bad and it needs to change.”
