Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United appear to be gathering momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
