LA Battles Historic High Temperatures Only Days Following Severe Winter Weather.
Following a week of torrential rains that caused flooding across areas in the city, Los Angeles is now confronting unseasonably high weather for late February.
All-Time High Heat
On Friday midday, the temperature climbed to ninety-one degrees Fahrenheit in central LA, according to meteorologists. This breaks the old record for this date, which was 88°F (31°C) and was set in 2025.
"Very warm conditions" were highlighted on official graphics for the region.
Public Health Alerts
The weather service stated that Friday's weather posed an "higher threat for heat illness" for vulnerable populations. Their recommendations suggested:
- Staying hydrated.
- Avoiding outdoor activities during the afternoon hours of the day.
- Ensuring you do not leave children or pets unattended in a parked vehicle.
A Dramatic Weather Swing
This dramatic increase in heat follows closely after a powerful winter storm that pummeled the area earlier in the week. That system delivered high winds, thunderstorms, and significant snowfall to the mountains, leading to evacuation orders for many residents.

Forecast Ahead
Looking ahead some relief will arrive. The heat were predicted to fall to around 16 degrees Celsius (61 Fahrenheit) in downtown LA by late Friday.
Additional areas that reached 90°F featured Woodland Hills, Long Beach, and Burbank. Elsewhere, Oxnard, Westwood, Camarillo, and Santa Maria were projected to reach the upper eighties.
In the coming days, downtown Los Angeles can anticipate weather in the eighties, with a further cooldown on tap for the following week.
