Jurgen Klopp states a return to coach Liverpool is theoretically possible.
The German coach, who stepped down from Anfield in 2024, has suggested that returning someday is a possibility. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful nine-year spell which brought a European Cup triumph and the Premier League crown in 30 years, currently occupies roles in a global football capacity with the Red Bull group and as an advisor to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
The club claimed the Premier League under Arne Slot, though countless followers who revere Klopp would be thrilled by the notion that he might come back one day. Speaking candidly, he shared with his interviewer: “I stated I will never coach another team on English soil. Therefore if then it’s Liverpool...yes. It's plausible.”
“Being 58, which suggests I could make the decision later on, it's uncertain. Is a decision required immediately? If so, I wouldn't return. Fortunately, no such pressure exists. I can just see what the future brings.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Questioned regarding which situations would have to unfold to draw him back to management, Klopp admitted he was not instantly drawn to such a return. “It's unclear to me, My present work fulfills me,” he said. “I don’t miss coaching; I avoid standing under bad weather for two-and-a-half or three hours; I'm glad to skip press conferences multiple times weekly or doing numerous chats weekly.
“The locker room isn't missed in that context, yet sharing a meal with the team talking freely, I appreciate that. Success was frequent thus frequently great spirits at the club. I can still hear Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh in my ear for example.”
Praise for His Successor
Klopp was full of praise for his successor, praising him due to the changes which secured the championship last campaign. Liverpool have lost a string of losses across various tournaments post heavy investment, but he rubbished the suggestion it could be a decline.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker such as Wirtz, doubters will be silenced with negative comments. An outstanding player. Ekitike, excellent performer. It’s a really good well-judged squad. You don’t have to worry over the club, they'll bounce back.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
The manager expressed deep feeling on the loss of Diogo Jota, whom he brought in in 2020, and the effect at the club. The forward lost his life in a car crash with his brother recently.
“Who can fill the void of such an individual? It goes beyond his on-field talent, it’s the guy he was. It's hard to picture the team environment missing him. I still cannot speak properly regarding this. A profound tragedy for his teammates also. Not a single person might employ it as an excuse yet it's the reality. Entering the changing area where he was omnipresent. Dealing with that on a personal level is not easy. Unbearable.”
