Iran Claims Strike on American Facility in Bahrain, During Regional Military Operations.
Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched missile attacks across the region in response for a large-scale and continuing attack against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity near the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any destruction is not yet known and the American officials has yet to issue a statement.
Regional Interceptions
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to American military installations - said they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their airspace.
In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was targeting US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the strikes on Iran carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That US-Israeli operation - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on sites linked to the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the Iranian people to rise up against the regime.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israeli military reported it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the UAE stated that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems responded to the projectiles with great effectiveness and successfully intercepted a several projectiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted debris landed in a populated district in the capital, causing some structural damage and the death of one civilian.
The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
