Tim Southee's most recent Test match for New Zealand was against England in the final month of 2024.

England's fast-bowling advisor Tim Southee is currently evaluating the extent of his role will be during the forthcoming Ashes contest in the host nation.

The ex- Kiwi seamer is expected to be available for the first Test because of his involvement in the International League T20 tournament, which starts on December 2 in the UAE.

Southee, 36, took up a position as England's pace bowling advisor in the warmer months after claiming 391 wickets in 107 Tests for New Zealand.

Speaking as England's team for the opening of three T20 matches against the Kiwis was announced, he stated of his participation: "We are still evaluating that at the moment.

"We'll see what happens over the next little while."

England pace icon Broad had declared the Australia side as their "worst team since 2010", but Southee was in no uncertainty over what to expect during the contest, which begins on 21 November.

"In my view there's at any time a bad Aussie side," he said.

"Our focus is firmly on what we're trying to do. In my opinion the caliber of [England's] side that's heading out to Australia is brilliant.

"It ought to be an thrilling encounter, the Ashes. Not just [are|do] English and Australian people eagerly anticipate it, I believe the entire cricketing community is."

But, before the English team travel to Perth for the opening Ashes Test, they face New Zealand in Christchurch on Saturday.
