Elected officials nationwide offered tributes following the passing of Dick Cheney, with the former president portraying his one-time running mate as "a calm and steady presence in the White House during great national challenges."

Tributes from Colleagues

The former president expressed that he would recall his service "as a man of integrity and honor" and that history would remember him "as one of the most dedicated officials of his generation – an American patriot who brought integrity, high intelligence and dedicated focus to all his governmental posts."

Senator John Barrasso of Wyoming offered praise. "The state grieves the loss of former VP Cheney," he wrote on social media.

"His resolute statesmanship shaped many of the biggest moments in domestic and U.S. foreign policy for generations. He will be recalled as an influential leader who influenced world affairs in Wyoming, the nation, and around the world."

Countrywide Responses

Legislators across America also shared perspectives regarding the 46th vice-president.

"He committed decades to serving the United States–through various branches of government," expressed The conservative lawmaker from Ohio. "He maintained steadfast dedication to our homeland protection, power, and constitutional principles."

Iowa's female senator wrote: "Whether Vice President, Pentagon leader, or in Congress, he consistently demonstrated pride to the United States. His commitment to defeat terrorism ensured there was never another 9/11. His service was distinguished and dutifully. May he rest in peace."

Personal Accounts

The state's chief executive recalled: "We first became familiar when we were fellow legislators and he was in the Republican leadership circle. He demonstrated consideration, consistent, and a champion for his home state. The country witnessed his guidance as Pentagon chief, overseeing defense operations during the Middle Eastern conflict. Vice President Cheney served devotedly in each position he occupied. His absence will be felt."

Previous top lawyer and congressman, the Michigan politician, reflected upon their service together in Washington. "He was a good man, a remarkable politician and a loyal citizen," the former official stated.

The organization leader, head of the conservative institute American Enterprise Institute, commented on the loss of its former alumni. "He was a force in the GOP circles and influenced substantially on our country," the president stated.

The White House has not yet issued comments. The GOP frontrunner was active on social media this morning but has not posted about the statesman's demise.
