“That was regrettable. That was essentially an exchange with our fans out in front of us,” Jones stated during a radio appearance. “Present was a swarm of Cowboys fans—not Jets fans, Cowboys fans. The entire stadium was brimming with excitement for the Dallas team.”
He further emphasized that the signal was completely unintentional, occurring amid the excitement following the team’s final touchdown. “I just showed the incorrect digit,” he remarked. “The action was inadvertently performed. I’m not kidding. Should you call it unplanned, you can. But it got resolved rapidly.”
League Precedent for Proprietor Fines
This incident isn’t the first time an NFL owner has been penalized for misconduct. Recent cases include:
- Carolina Panthers proprietor Tepper was penalized $300K for throwing a drink at fans in January 2024.
